Thesis (D.P.T.)--Azusa Pacific University, 2017.
A literature search was performed in order to assess whether a middle-aged man with lateral epicondylitis (LE) would benefit from Cyriax physiotherapy or Mobilization with movement (MWM) to decrease pain. Searches were performed in March 2016 through the Physiotherapy evidence database (PEDRO), the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and the Google Scholar. After all the literature was evaluated, five key articles were chosen for further review. All five articles addressed the use of Cyriax therapy. To articles with similar methods had conflicting conclusions, one showed Cyriax to be effective, where the other did not. The remaining three articles had limited and conflicting evidence to support Cyriax physiotherapy. Three articles addressed the use of mobilization with movement (MWM). Two of the three articles showed significant reduction in pain, and the remaining article concluded there was limited evidence. Clear controls, larger sample sizes, and longer follow-up testing is needed for all articles. Further research is needed on both interventions individually to determine the best protocols and devices to maximize results. New research comparing cyriax physiotherapy versus MWM's would be beneficial. Both treatment methods may be effective in reducing pain in a middle-aged main with LE, but the question remains whether or not one method is more effective than the other.
