Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2017.
The aim of this quantitative correlational research study was to examine the relationship between perceived leadership styles of supervisors and employees' perception of empowerment in privately owned service organizations in the United States. The significance of this study is to help leaders gain a deeper understanding of how supervisors' leadership style could affect employee empowerment. The effect of perceived leadership style (specifically, servant leadership) on employee empowerment at privately owned service organizations was unknown. Two hundred and fourteen participants completed the Servant Leadership Questionnaire and the Employee Empowerment Questionnaire via Survey Monkey, and the data were analyzed using SPSS Version 23.0. The results revealed a statistically significant relationship between perceived leadership style (specifically, servant leadership) and employees' perception of empowerment at privately owned servicing organizations (r = .239, p < .05). The findings of this study are central to improving employee performance, innovation, quality of life, job satisfaction, reduced burnout, intention to stay with their company, and affective organizational commitment. The study adds to the research arena of leadership styles (specifically, servant leadership) and its potential to influence privately owned service organizations.
