The purposes of this study are as follows: (1) to understand Chinese religious history and China mission history; (2) to analyze and evaluate the contribution of the China mission from a historical and missiological perspective; (3) to trace the historical development of church-state relationships since 1945; and (4) to suggest a mission strategy of the Korean church for the evangelization of China.

The Korean church is preparing for a new leap forward after celebrating the centennial of Korean mission. It has transformed itself from a helped church to a helping church. At this time, China seems to be the Korean church's unique mission field.

In fact, the mission in China is significant for the Korean church from the following perspectives: (1) China is the greatest mission field ever to be evangelized because her population makes up one fourth of the world's population; (2) China can be a stepping stone for the evangelization of other communist countries; (3) it broadens the possibility of the evangelism of North Koreans living in the three northeastern provinces.

In Chapter One, the necessity and the purpose of new studies on the mission in China are treated. The importance that the mission in China holds for the Korean church is suggested.

In Chapter Two, in order to understand the mission in China, mission history is studied, analyzed and evaluated from a historical perspective.

Chapter Three gives a survey of Chinese culture and religion. Some mission devices are sought through analyzing the belief systems of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, Ancestor Worship, and Shamanism.

The Fourth Chapter deals with the Communist ideology in China, Chinese policy on Christianity, and the Cultural Revolution. The growth of the Chinese Church under persecution, and its prospective growth in the future is considered.

In the Fifth Chapter, a detailed mission strategy of the Korean church for the China mission is suggested. This strategy includes: (1) mission through radio broadcasting; (2) mission through distribution of Bibles and Protestant theological literature; (3) mission through laymen; (4) mission through Korean descendants in China; and (5) mission through prayer.
