This project allows the elementary school music teacher to incorporate traditional Chinese musical instruments and folksongs into the classroom using the Orff-Schulwerk methodology. The project targets American-Born Chinese students attending elementary schools in the United States.

The teacher must possess some knowledge of Orff-Schulwerk methodology, and soprano recorder performance capabilities. The teacher is not required to have knowledge of Chinese music and instruments; everything needed for their successful introduction into the classroom is included.

The first part of the project introduces four traditional Chinese instruments: pi-pa, er-hu, sheng, and Chinese percussion. The second part contains six lesson plans. Chinese folksongs and their Orff orchestrations are included, as are sources for other Chinese folksongs. Included are pictures of the Chinese instruments and their notations, along with sources for them. Sources for Chinese instrumental performance video recordings and audio cassette tapes, and sources for Chinese cultural materials, are also given.
