Although the condition of the American economy from 2008 through the economic recession was considered by economists to be in a state of disarray; many students were still not taking advantage of career services. This qualitative exploratory case study explored the experiences students had with career services as well as those who chose not to use them and identified key points of interest that explain why these services were not being used despite economic conditions. This exploratory case study concentrated on the experiences and perceptions of 18 individuals from a community college in Oklahoma. Focused interviews were the medium by which information was exchanged and common themes emerged. The results of this study identified three major themes. The information collected through this study was used to redefine and explore strategies for career services. Educational institutions can use this information to create ways to improve the overall usage of these services by understanding the issues which were identified by this study. Results from this study illuminate other services which may also have difficulty in student participation and provide additional insight and strategies about how to encourage or promote student participation in campus services.
