The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to test the research hypotheses and results indicated a significant positive relationship at the .05 level (p< 0.05) between the mentoring of African American entrepreneurs and their perceptions of success. Mentor functions found to contribute most to African American success were providing exposure and visibility, role modeling, and confirmation. This study contributes to the research on mentoring by providing a perspective to African American entrepreneurs in the potential, ability, need of and the effects on mentoring and career advancement. Mentoring is a tool that can be effective in the areas of personal development and empowerment.
