Thesis (M.Ed.)--State University of New York Empire State College, 2016.
The purpose of this curriculum is to utilize recording technology in performance-based music classes as a formative assessment tool. This particular curriculum uses GarageBand as the recording medium in conjunction with other known formative assessment strategies such as rubrics, portfolios, ePortfolios, as well as a specifically designed critique protocol form. This use of technology to record student performance within the scope of the unit will allow students to critique themselves as well as their peers, and reflect on their own musical strengths and weaknesses. Through the process of guided critique and reflection using these recordings, students will be able to become more self-directed learners. This curriculum was piloted with the First and Second Reader, and their responses to the work are highly encouraging.
