In the past decade the Italian art market , in the modern and contemporary sectors, has greatly evolved as a consequence of the present socio-economical and political situation. Along with an expansion in the the activity of galleries, foundations, museum exhibitions, auction houses, the scenario in Italy has considerably restructured. The incremented notoriety of modern artists such as Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Alighiero Boetti and Alberto Burri brought to an automatic awakening for the artists' market activity, not only in Italy but mostly on an international scale. Instead, the market for contemporary Italian artists within Italy appears to be more hesitant in growth, as artists such as Enrico Castellani, Maurizio Cattelan, Giuseppe Penone and Rudolf Stingel encounter limits that are to be conducted to the Italian market system.
