The field of technical theatre is rewarding on many levels. Not only can technicians express themselves by designing and fabricating various set pieces and props, their creations are practically used and evaluated for both their aesthetic value and engineering accomplishments. While the field is fulfilling, entrance into this field is difficult for the uninformed. The best way in contemporary society to easily reach large numbers of people is through internet based media. By utilizing the popular social media platform YouTube, instructional videos can be made public and shared with interested viewers. Theoretically, using proven instructional design pedagogy will make the material easy to understand for technical theatre novices. This project used these concepts as guidelines, developing professionally styled videos that are sprinkled with levity to make them both entertaining and educationally sound. This paper explains the background, development and design of the video project.
