The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church members toward lesbian and gay male sexual orientation. The effects of certain factors possibly influencing attitudes, such as religious and sexual identity of the participants, age, education, role in the church and contact with LGBT individuals were investigated. Participants completed an online survey, which consisted of subscales from the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Knowledge and Attitudes Scale for Heterosexual (LGB-KASH), Religious Identitiy Development Scale (RIDS) the Measure of Sexual Exploration Identity and Commitment (MoSeic) and the Opinions Scale (OPS). The LGB-KASH sub-scales and the OPS scale were used to measure attitudes, while the subscales of the RIDS and the MoSeic were used as independent variables of religious and sexual identity. The overall results suggest that the age and education were not predictors of attitude towards lesbian and gay male sexual orientation among SDA church members. However, previous contact with LGBT community, the status of religious and sexual identity development and roles in the church were found to be predictors of attitudes towards the LGBT community. Contact with the LGBT individuals even at the acquaintance level was shown to be a predictor of attitude. Furthermore a person's level of involvement and role in the church were also shown to be predictors of attitude. While age did not prove to be a predictor of attitudes towards this population, there was a non-linear progression in terms of attitude towards the LGBT community based on age. Individuals belonging to the youngest and oldest groups were shown to be the most affirming and the middle-aged group reporting less affirming attitudes.
