Thesis (M.A.)--Sotheby's Institute of Art - New York, 2015.
This thesis will discuss at length four key examples of modern and contemporary group exhibitions focusing on conceptual and visual representations of utopia and dystopia: This is Tomorrow at Whitechapel Gallery in 1956, The Spirit of Utopia at Whitechapel Gallery in 2013, After Nature at the New Museum in 2008, culminating at this year's L'Etat du Ciel series of exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo. I plan to use these in order to call attention to the evolution of utopia as a literal idealized future to instead critical processes and gestures highlighting the current ills within our economic and social frameworks, and proposing changes for these within contemporary art in a coherent and contemplative exhibition format.
