We are all born into a culture, however, the culture we are born into may not necessarily be the culture we live in or identify with. Forming a cultural identity can be difficult especially when you are part of two different cultures. This study aims to compare the cultural identity between native born Bosnians and Bosnians born outside of Bosnia who are living in the United States of America and are between the ages of 14 to 27 year olds. Participants were split up into two generations, "generation young" and "generation old" and given an anonymous questionnaire with questions pertaining to demographics, cultural identity and language. It was hypothesized that Bosnians born in Bosnia would identify more strongly with the Bosnian culture, while Bosnians born outside of Bosnia would identify more strongly with the American culture. However, results yielded that "generation young" who was born outside of Bosnia, identified more strongly with the Bosnian culture than "generation old" who was born in Bosnia. Possible reasons for this surprising result are overcompensation by the younger generation trying to prove their sense of pride.
