Since the passage of Title IX, there has been a continuous decline of women in athletic administration positions at the intercollegiate level. Despite, NCAA initiatives and efforts on promoting women into leadership positions, they are still underrepresented. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to examined why the NCAA's leadership programs have not increased the representation of women in Division II athletic administration positions. The problem addressed was the lack of women in athletic administration positions at the NCAA Division II despite the efforts of the NCAA's leadership programs. A purposive sample of seven women head coaches from the Alliance of Women Coaches of NCAA Division II participated in the study. Standardized open-ended interviews and information analysis of the NCAA.org public website from the Leadership Institute and NCAA and NACWAA Leadership Symposium served in this case study as a data collection technique. Interviews were recorded to facilitate the transcription, analysis, and coding through the Dedoose software program. Four themes emerged from the research questions; (a) women are largely unaware of the NCAA leadership programs, (b) NCAA leadership programs need to be more accessible and promoted, (c) NCAA leadership programs are a positive resource for women, and (d) recommendations for improving NCAA leadership programs. Recommendations of the study included providing direct marketing and communication with women coaches, develop more advertising of leadership programs, more accessibility and economic resources to attend them, and develop a graduate leadership program for women. Recommendations for further research suggest to include women coaches from the NCAA Division II and III and other jobs positions such as women athletic administrators and assistant coaches.
