Collegiate student-athletes may encounter mental health issues such as performance anxiety, phobic anxiety after injuries, perfectionism, attention issues, disordered eating, substance use, and sleep disturbances. Mental health services that encompass the holistic well-being of student-athletes could translate to success on and off the field. However, collegiate athletic programs rarely take advantage of mental health services on campus. This case study research describes the process of beginning a collaborative relationship between a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited counselor preparation program and a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletic program at a single university.
