Thesis (M.S.)--Eastern Oregon University, 2014.
Reading Specialists are found in most schools, but their job descriptions can vary greatly. The International Reading Association takes the position that reading specialists should use multiple methods of instruction. However, there is very little research as to whether or not reading specialists do use multiple methods with students they are working with. Through surveys, observations and interviews, this study investigated whether or not reading specialists believe in multiple methods and use them in the classroom and whether or not specialists' methods are consistent with their beliefs. This examination of reading specialists found that reading specialists do believe in and use multiple methods. It also found that some reading specialists are struggling to align their beliefs to the curriculum that they are using, and these recommended curricula may inhibit specialists' use of multiple methods.
