Thesis (D.M.A.)--The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1991.

The purpose of this dissertation was to examine the life and song composition of Henri Duparc and to produce a guide for the preparation and performance of the songs. Chapter 2 presented historical background on the life and times of Duparc. Examination was made of the possible reasons for the premature cessation of Duparc's creative activity as a composer.Subjects--Topical Terms:

The poetry was given a word-by-word interlinear translation and phonetic transcription. Analyses were made of punctuation and textual variances between the published poems and the song texts.
520 $a Chapter 4 provided the commentary on the songs themselves, with particular focus upon musical-textual relationships. Factual information, such as year of composition, published editions, keys, and dedication were presented. Printer errors were detailed.
520 $a Chapter 5 was a brief summary of the importance of Duparc as a composer of French song. Views of representative scholars and critics were included.
520 $a Prose translations of the poems were included in an appendix. A separate appendix contains an extensive discography of the songs of Duparc.
