Thesis (B.A.M./M.B.A.)--Alaska Pacific University, 2015.
This qualitative narrative research explored the leadership and change within the organizations of six current executive leaders in Alaska Native Regional Corporations (ANRCs). The literature review included common leadership styles, change management theory and process, and the formation of the ANRCs through the passing of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The transcripts were condensed to a narrative format specific to the research question. The findings revealed the following themes: (a) the significant impact of the ANRCs' sense of responsibility to its relationship with its shareholders; (b) stewardship of the environment; (c) commitment to the growth of their communities; and (d) revitalizing cultural heritage, including imbedding heritage into ANRC subsidiaries. Although the leadership styles and characteristics differed among leaders, the characteristics of and approach towards change management were similar to the theories discussed within the literature review.
