The history of human communication has a rich and varied history and the future appears no less complex. As new ways to connect to one another are invented and shared on a progressively faster basis, it is no wonder that there has been little time to stop and question how this has impacted us as a species. Within this philosophical, theoretical treatise, an exploration of how technologically based communication is understood and interpreted within existing knowledge of human communication was conducted. The author focused on examining the body of research from numerous areas, including psychology, education, and linguistics to demonstrate the pervasiveness of past research, as well as the areas that have lacked exploration. The history of both technology and communication are examined using three conceptual framework; hermeneutics, phenomenology, and discourse analysis. The complex topic of digital discourse was elucidated. The areas of technologically based communication explored reveal a number of topics, the examination of which in future research, could lead to better understanding of the flourishing dimensions of tech-based languages.
