As a result of historically implementing and maintaining a competitive price structure based primarily on industry price points, StrataTech Education Group (STEG), a provider of postsecondary vocational education, had never considered or evaluated the effects this had on its low income students. This quantitative ex post facto study investigated the impact of adopting affordable pricing structures had on low income students. Archival data was collected from the STEG database on the number of low income students who enrolled during the period from 2012 to 2013 prior to the adoption of the affordable pricing structures, and was compared to the number of low income students who enrolled during the period from 2013 through 2014 after the adoption of the affordable pricing structures. Descriptive analysis was employed to assess differences between pre-adoption and post-adoption enrollment of low income students. A chi-square statistical analysis was utilized for hypothesis testing. The results show that there was a difference in enrollment between the two time periods chi2(1, N=3863) = 13.399, p < .05. The difference between enrollment periods suggests that the adoption of affordable pricing structures had a significant effect on enrollment of low income students as was demonstrated by the chi-square analysis results (p<.05). These findings support StrataTech Education Group's adoption of affordable pricing structures as a factor in improving access to education for low income students. Future researchers can expand on this research and extend the findings from this study to other educational institutions that have or will adopt affordable pricing structures.
