The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and barriers of African-American youth participation in tennis based on the reflections of college students. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire instrument and semi-structured interviews. The constant comparison method was used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that parental involvement was consistent among all participants in contributing to participation in tennis. Participants also navigated barriers to participation in tennis, including access to facilities, access to equipment, and competing sport/extracurricular interests.
