Nietzsche and deconstruction.
- 49 p.
Source: Masters Abstracts International, Volume: 41-06, page: 1596.
Thesis (M.A.)--The University of West Florida, 1989.
This study in the interdisciplinary Humanities discourses upon the precursors to Existentialism ("A Vision: Entering the Existential Atmosphere"), Friedrich Nietzsche ("The Nietzschean"), Nietzsche's influence on Deconstruction ("Of Nietzschean Birth: Deconstruction") and the limits of Deconstruction ("A Vision: One Step From the Void"). The issues at stake are illustrated through the two "Vision" chapters, which compare the artistic visions of Caspar David Friedrich and Donald Judd. Friedrich painted symbolic Christian landscape paintings as the storm clouds of Existentialism gathered in the West. After the full fury of that existential (and deconstructive) storm blew through, Judd tried to create completely non-symbolic minimalist art objects. The two middle chapters, on the Nietzschean, and Deconstruction, discourse on the philosophical and critical foundations that shifted during this dynamic period: structuralism vs. deconstruction, objective vs. intersubjective, truth vs. fiction, etc. And the end of deconstruction? One step from the void: a stand on faith (with Kierkegaard)---and a chance to rebuild.
