The purpose of this study was to examine chronic pain, perceived social support, and depression in college athletes. This study also explored possible moderating factors associated with depression in college athletes. It specifically examined gender, source of support, and year of eligibility. The results showed that perceived social support significantly predicted depression in college athletes suffering from sport-related chronic pain. Both perceived social support and chronic pain were significant predictors of depression. The results also showed that friend social support, senior year of eligibility, and significant other social support were significant predictors of depression in college athletes suffering from sport-related chronic pain.
