Middle Level Kodaly-Based Music Reading and Ear Training Curriculum for the SMART board by Rachel Erickson Application of the interactive white board in large group instruction is currently exploding in education. Middle level music educators have limited music literacy enhancing curriculum resources for use on interactive white boards at their fingertips. This project is a multi-faceted development of Kodaly infused music reading curriculum for the Smart Board. Colorful page backgrounds combined with interactive icons arranged in research supported reading patterns of today's adolescent develop music reading skills through the use of American folk songs. Each of the project's components are all sequentially aligned and support the Silver Lake College Sequence of Kodaly concepts from Levels 2, 3 and the beginning of Level 4. Each of the four sections of Music Reading Exercises begins with a pre-reading page for use as a guide to prepare students to think in musical symbols before reading and singing the motives. Music Assessments are applied to the Senteo Response system which allows instructors to check learning progress of their large group more often and with more ease through the use of automated data-entry clickers.
