Thesis (M.F.A.)--University of Maryland, Baltimore County, 2015.
I entered the Intermedia and Digital Arts (IMDA) program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County having just left the field of documentary production. My intention was to build upon my interest in documentary film. While moved by the power of documentary film to witness the power of other people's stories, I had always been working under the direction of someone else. Graduate school seemed to be the perfect opportunity to explore the medium of witnessing on my own terms.

Nonetheless, after a year and a half of experimenting with different technologies, fancy equipment, and computer programming in the IMDA program, I found myself feeling pulled too far away from my body. I would sit in front of a computer for hours, attempting to program a blinking light. This might be the perfect medium for someone to communicate divine truths, but it wasn't mine. All these computer programs are tools. But without a presence in my own body, these tools were useless to me.

I abandoned technology for a quest into the meaning of that presence. Both my written thesis and my M.F.A. thesis exhibition are documents of that journey.
