Thesis (Psy.D.)--The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2015.
This exploratory phenomenological study examines the lived experience of four entrepreneurial executives who voluntarily retired in midlife. Based on thematic analysis of the interviews, a four-stage model of retirement adaptation is proposed including decompression, assessment, emergence, and reengagement. The state of current career, retirement, midlife development, and entrepreneurial identity literature is critically reviewed and implications for clinical psychologists are discussed.
