Thesis (Ed.D.)--Georgia Southern University, 2003.
One of the most prodigious figures of the twentieth century was William Edward Burghardt (W. E. B.) Du Bois (1868--1963). A man of immense talents, Du Bois devoted his life to unabashedly addressing the race problem in America. His racialized discourse at once captivated and repulsed a nation. His intellectual voracity regularly traversed disciplinary boundaries with stunning precision, relevance, and scholarship. While one of the most prolific writers of his era, Du Bois' discursive contribution to the field of education has lain peculiarly dormant throughout the years. This marginalization of Du Bois' educational discourse precipitates my offering a contemporary theoretical framework for illuminating Du-Boisian educational perspectives. Using the vehicles of theoretical inquiry and Critical Race Theory, this study will seek to identify a nexus between Du Boisian educational discourse and Critical Race Theory. The preceding purpose is in furtherance of restoring Du Bois to the history of curriculum studies and making Du Bois relevant within the context of contemporary curriculum studies.
