This qualitative study explored the verbal and art making responses of Greek-Cypriot survivors who experienced the war event in Cyprus during 1974 and forced migration to the United States. Four Greek-Cypriot refugees were asked to recall traumatic memories during the war by creating art images that enhance memories and evoked emotion. This study focused on weather art therapy intervention was helpful to Greek-Cypriot refugees who experience war trauma, acculturation, separation from loved ones, loss of their relatives and properties and disruption of identity. Three prominent themes (a) Ability to hold the important of culture, (b) Reaffirmation of values and (c) Narrative creation through art expression were identified from an in-depth review of the data. The results of the study indicated that art therapy provided an effective tool for refugees to begin exploring some of the experiences associated with war. It was demonstrate that the creation of artwork within a therapeutic relationship can provide a powerful way of remembering, mourning and reconstructing experiences of trauma.
