This is an arts-based qualitative research study that follows an a/r/tographic exploration of the lived experience of homeschooling. Through the a/r/tography methods of art-making, journaling and self-reflection I make an account of arts-based and Waldorf informed homeschooling with my kindergarten aged daughter. In addition to the a/r/tographic exploration of my artist, researcher and teacher identities, the inquiry is rooted in my identity as a mother and feminist. The research document consists of both text and images generated during the process. The study allowed me to recognize areas for discussion including: the practicalities of the Waldorf based homeschool, formal versus informal schooling methods such as unschooling; feminist tensions in mothering and art-making; opportunities for mindfulness in home based education and the inclusion of care theory in the homeschool setting. The product presented here endeavors to provide an intimate telling of what our homeschool looks like. By providing such a story other homeschoolers, traditional educators, legislators, and administrators can inform their own practices.
