Thesis (M.Eng.Sc.)--Multimedia University (Malaysia), 2014.
The explosive growth of data consumption today fuelled the service providers to explore methods in achieving higher network utilization efficiency in an exceedingly congested spectrum. In the process of examining system performance of an OFDMA network, the feasibility of bandwidth exhaustive services in OFDMA network such as Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast (MCBCS) is examined and a scenario where large link quality difference between subscribers causes network utilization inefficiency is discovered. With the realization of performance inefficiency in MCBCS, this study aimed to improve network utilization efficiency with the aid of a premium subscription service scheduling algorithm. By utilizing an OMNeT++ simulation model developed according to the IEEE802.16e Mobile WiMAX standard, the performance of the proposed scheduling algorithm in simulated large link quality difference environment is analyzed. The analysis moved on to explore the robustness of the proposed algorithm in an actual channel model. In this case, a Walfish-Ikegami COST 231 pedestrian-B channel model is used to supply channel information of all mobile stations. MATLAB is used to provide accurate continuous-based simulation of the channel model and the data is then linked into OMNeT++.
