Thesis (M.A.Sc.)--University of Windsor (Canada), 2016.
The spire-roughness-element technology is the most widely used approach in a low speed wind tunnel simulation. In the current study, this technology will be applied in a new wind tunnel facility at the University of Windsor. After setting up all the instrumentations and developing data acquisition and analysis software, the flow quality of the empty wind tunnel is evaluated first. The noise sources which cause distortion of the raw data have been identified. Subsequently, the flow properties at the test section with the presence of spires and roughness elements have been measured. Wind speed profiles, turbulence intensity profiles, integral length scale and power spectrum are studied. A very important phenome-non was observed that the exponent ? of the power law wind speed profile varies mono-tonically with respect to the frontal area density of the roughness element.
