Thesis (D.Sc.)--Robert Morris University, 2015.
In January 2011, Google executive Wael Ghonim forever changed the course of Egypt's history, by calling for demonstrations on the 25th or National Police day via Facebook. The purpose of this research is to validate the new normal (paradigm shift), where the use of social media now moves many "real world" steps of political violence into digital spaces. This research shows that the semiotic linguistic-lexicon associated with Mao Tse-tung's principals of a revolutionary war can be clearly identified in the content of the we are all Khalid Said Facebook page. In order to explain the Egyptian revolutionary digital activism, and its intersection with the 2011 insurrection, the researcher conducted a mixed method study. The study's results confirm the existence of a semiotic linguistic-lexicon linkage between Mao's principals and the artifacts contained on the we are all Khalid Said page. This demonstrates that the culminating point of revolutionary sentiment was achieved in digital space (on Facebook) making revolution unavoidable.
