The research involving the wives of active-duty male Marines and their experiences with parenting through the stages of deployment has been very limited. Most researchers have focused primarily on other military branches. The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of wives of active-duty United States (U.S.), male Marines. In addition, I looked at parenting experiences within the family system during the different stages of their husbands' deployment. In an effort to fill this gap, I utilized Moustakas' (1994) six-step transcendental phenomenology and interviewed eight wives of active-duty male Marines to understand their experiences and to give them a voice. The results of this study revealed four essential themes to describe the experience of this phenomenon, which included: (a) high anxiety and struggles through the stages of deployment; (b) relocating and social support; (c) new roles and responsibilities for the family; and (d) communication before and during deployments. I also reflected upon Bowen Family Systems Theory as a lens for my research, which allowed me to grasp the wives' experiences.
