Thesis (Ph.D.)--State University of New York at Buffalo, 2014.
Toward a Mobile Poetics combines opening reflections ("Instants") with formal experiments ("Exercises"). The reflections explore occurrences of mobile poetics. As a social practice that values dialogue over isolated, interior inquiry, mobile poetics is best portrayed in its embodiments -- or instants. These embodiments do not belong to any single aesthetic genre. For this reason I survey poetry, philosophy, nonfiction, drama, and art. The formal experiments that constitute the bulk of this dissertation represent my first forays into mobile poetics -- dialogues with a friend, photo + text pieces composed with my wife, a jogging poem, a serial poem based on my mom's journals, and public walks. My hope is that all this work puts readers in motion, moving them toward their own mobile poetics.
