The study situates news coverage of two Asian American politicians in recent years, and that of Asian Americans in the past to explore the changes of stereotypes of Asian Americans, and to study if race one of the factors which exert influence on Asian American politicians nowadays. The study will use content analysis as well as qualitative research on textual news coverage and images of Judy Chu, the first Chinese American congresswoman, and Gary Locke, the only Chinese American ever to serve as a Governor. The project will focus on if there are differences between media coverage of Asian female politicians and that of Asian male politicians, and to explore their gender role in politics.
