Thesis (M.B.A.)--The College of St. Scholastica, 2014.
Continued exposure from contaminated personal protective equipment ensembles has been found to be a contributing factor in firefighter cancers. The following capstone study will outline a procedure and policy to mitigate the threat posed by contaminated personal protective equipment ensembles in the Saint Paul Fire Department. The study will recommend a number of organizational changes to align the department with existing cleanliness and maintenance standards for firefighter personal protective equipment ensembles. The study will also recommend a program of training and education for fire personnel to increase awareness of the inherent danger in the current cultural practice of wearing contaminated personal protective equipment ensembles. The interventions recommended by this capstone study are part of a larger effort to modify the existing organizational culture of the Saint Paul Fire Department with the intent to have fire personnel adopt a more favorable attitude toward long-term health and wellness.
