Thesis (M.A.)--Maryland Institute College of Art, 2014.

This paper intends to investigate contemporary social dynamics as they relate to financial structures. Contemporary capitalism will be examined as the impetus for a way of life that is unsustainable, as well as the affect which capitalism has had on social and cultural development. Along with a brief overview of the current situation, methods to counter act the pervasive and potentially devastating effect which capitalism has had on the global market will be considered as well. The writings of Franco "Bifo" Berrardi will be employed to analyze the multifaceted manner that economics affect everyday life. Philosophical tenets that assert aesthetics as a product of cultural engagement are of particular interest. In order to magnify these assertions, a case study will be made of the work of the audio artist Abinadi Meza. Meza created a site---specific audio piece for the city of Baltimore that attempted to combat contemporary structures as well as examine the potential for art in the contemporary arena.
