This study offers empirical evidence for the efficacy of the therapeutic treatment for juvenile sex offenders known as the Integrated Sex Offender Treatment Program (ISOTP). An experimental pre-test, post-test research design compared the effects of ISOTP services among 21 adjudicated, male juvenile sex offenders. Participants were randomly assigned to an experimental group receiving ISOTP services and a control group receiving treatment as usual in a residential group care program. The experimental group experienced (1) statistically significant decreases in cognitive distortions related specifically to rape distortions compared to the control group, and (2) measurably greater reductions within the experimental group in cognitive distortions related specifically to rape and molestation. The ISOTP is an evidence-based, best practices alternative to other treatment modalities.
