Even though all cultures are rooted in the past, singing games are reshaped as they progress through generations of children, giving them a unique, creative quality. Because European and African culture are integral aspects of American culture, singing games continue to be a prevalent and important source of American folk music. This study collects and categorizes Black American and White American Circle Game Songs intended for inclusion in an elementary Kodaly music curriculum. Twenty-five songs from each culture are evaluated using standard analyses, interval sequence, and frequency tables. The musical characteristics are then compared and conclusions drawn.
