The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund an art appreciation program that supports school readiness outcomes for homeless children. Homeless children experience many challenges that can hinder their academic success, and the analysis of these complex challenges from an ecological perspective provides the opportunity to render an intervention that is effective in meeting the needs of this population. A search for potential funding sources resulted in the selection of The Green Foundation as the best funding source for this project. A grant proposal was then written to support an art appreciation program for the children residing at Thomas House Emergency Shelter in Orange County, California. Actual submission and/or funding of the grant was not required for the successful completion of this project.
