My thesis argues that mental events and behavioral events can form non-causal inseparable unities in skillful physical actions. This idea emerges from the works of Gilbert Ryle and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Ryle claimed that "adverbial" actions constitute cognition. Merleau-Ponty claimed that "motor intentional" actions constitute perception. Ryle and Merleau-Ponty's combined positive view---what I call their "Adverbialist" theory of mind---was and remains a radical alternative to prevailing causal theories of action, and lends credence to contemporary theories of embodied cognition and perception that Ryle and Merleau-Ponty's view prefigures.
