PROCEDURES: The design of this study was descriptive in nature and used both quantitative and qualitative questions. Three instruments were used to determine the relationship between marital adjustment and three predictors: dyadic trust, attitude toward Christianity, and gender. Four short questions were developed to explore the marital lives of transnational couples. The sample was recruited through the snowball sampling technique from select churches and the Internet society named Candle for Love. An online survey was developed. The link was sent through email to qualified candidates. A total of 102 eligible sample subjects, 51 wives and 51 husbands, were included. Multiple Regressions was employed to test the hypothesis. Analysis of qualitative data was focused on deriving the themes of responses.

FINDINGS: The findings of the quantitative data suggested that dyadic trust was a significant positive predictor of marital adjustment. Variables of attitudes toward Christianity and gender were not significant predictors of marital adjustment. A significant bivariate correlation was found between the variables of marital adjustment dyadic trust, and marital happiness. No significant differences existed between husbands and wives in marital adjustment and dyadic trust. Curiously, wives from an atheistic country possessed a significant better attitude toward Christianity than did the husbands.

Themes derived from responses to four qualitative questions revealed the following. Having a soul mate and happy marriage were reported blessings. The language and cultural differences were reported challenges. The local church provided helpful services and biblical teaching that was beneficial to the individual and to the marriage. The majority of respondents conditionally support Internet mediated transnational marriages. They suggested pursuers to understand cultural differences and establish sufficient face-to-face courtship before marriage as well as to love their spouse and respect their spouse's culture on a daily basis after marriage.
