Starting and running a construction company continuously and successfully for at least seven years, by a Hispanic female in the United States is an accomplishment by its self. Twenty Hispanic women demonstrated that leadership and business success can be obtained and sustained but some challenges had to be overcome such as lack of leadership skills, funding, relationships, language barriers, and discrimination. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the knowledge and lived experiences that potentially, made these women and their businesses attained financial success in a male dominated industry in southern California and southwest Arizona. New or existing business owners may benefit from learning how the women that participated in the study overcame the challenges, lead a growing organization, and achieved financial independence. A face-to-face interview with every subject who participated in the study, revealed an understanding of their experiences as business owners and how their goals were reached. For the data analysis, the Moustaka's modified VanKaam method was used. The themes that emerged covered support, organizational and financial structure, circumstance that led to personal satisfaction, professional development, and leadership as business owners. A recommendation for Hispanic females is that the combination of a dream, passion, determination, and language may facilitate opening or buying existing male-dominated businesses and convert them to business that creates success, satisfaction, and financial freedom. It takes a very specific set of leadership skills for a woman to lead men. Future research could include how Hispanic women partners with non-Hispanic women form partnership and see if this alliance would eliminate some of the challenges encountered by Hispanic female business owners.
