Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is increasingly identified in returning veterans. Research has advocated that there may be an intergenerational effect linked with exposure to extensive or enduring trauma. The purpose of this study was to consider adult children's perceptions of their parents' symptoms they associate with PTSD. The primary research question was: What are adult children's perceptions and experiences of their combat veteran parents' symptoms of PTSD and implications for their development? This qualitative study utilized semi-structured interviews with six participants. A thematic analysis of transcripts revealed 12 emerging themes related to participants' perceptions of their father's symptoms, impact on the parent-child relationship, and adult development. This study contributes to the growing literature related to the impact of veteran parents' PTSD symptoms in relation to the developing child.
