This project evaluates the theory and practical application of the Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) risk assessment and management process in a product design and fabrication environment. The project defines a method for training personnel in the use of DFMEA and deploying it into a pre-existing design process.

This project evaluates the theory and practical application of the Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) risk assessment and management process in a product design and fabrication environment. The project defines a method for training personnel in the use of DFMEA and deploying it into a pre-existing design process.

Manufacturing data, in conjunction with customer feedback and field reporting, consistently identify unacceptable levels of product defects where the root causes have emanated from product design activities. The central goal of this project is to develop the structures and methods for eliminating those defects through the development and implementation of rigorous DFMEA processes that are integrated into the design steps.

An effective and thorough DFMEA process results in reduced product design defects and measureable internal efficiency increases. These positive increases are evidenced by reduced engineering changes and increased customer satisfaction measured by fewer customer complaints and field service issues.
