This dissertation (Action Research Study) guides educators on the concept of integrating children's literature into the academic and behavioral curriculum guide. It researches two important attributes where children's literature can be utilized such as academic content areas and character education. The third concept showcases a "double-edge sword" which is bibliotherapy. Bibliotherapy allows students to cope with various universal and individual issues that the character or characters are dealing with in the story. In addition, the individualized training manual for "how-to" utilize children's literature in the educational arena is included with this research project. The educational manual provides educators with the historical background and intended population for each academic and behavioral concept. It gives a list of specific books to utilize, blank templates, completed templates and tips for using the story in a differentiation of instruction format. However, the primary focus was to determine to what extent the "Lit It" professional development series would have a positive effect on educators' attitudes/perceptions.
