The purposes of this dissertation are: (1) constructing a contemporary flying geese development model by drawing the Japanese experience, and (2) exploring Taiwan's structural position and performance by comparing the Taiwanese experience with the Japanese, as the debaters of the model do not have a common framework and the Taiwanese experience has not been studied extensively and thoroughly.

Then, the Taiwanese state and selected electronic manufacturers are inserted into the framework to make comparisons.
520 $a Through the portrait and discussion, not only are the similarities and differences of Taiwan and Japan revealed, but the possible causes and dynamics are reasoned in Chapter Three, Four, and Five, each of which deals with: (1) the Taiwanese patterns of foreign direct investment and trade, (2) the strategies of development and regional division of labor of Taiwanese electronic manufacturers, which have built cross-border production networks, and (3) the challenges confronting the Taiwanese state, as it has formulated and implemented strategies to solve problems.
