Background: The healthcare landscape is changing and nurses have experienced mergers and reorganizing of their work, negatively impacting their workplace experience and leading to decreased job satisfaction. One means of dealing with these changes has been through collective bargaining, but this, for some nurses, is in contrast to their professional ideology.

Implications for Nursing: This research can be used to inform administrators on how to better engage bedside nurses so that collaborative work can be accomplished within the hospital environment. Also, it could benefit faculty to incorporate current trends and the history of collective bargaining into the curriculum to better socialize nurses to understand the complex history of the profession they are entering, potentially encouraging future nurse leaders to be able to weave professional ideologies into the collective bargaining ideologies in order to better compliment each other.
