This thesis examines certain structural and technological aspects related to the Internet that are fundamental to its emergence as a medium within Contemporary Art. Integral to this investigation is a critical examination of the materiality of the 'image' and of its technological support. I will put forth a discussion of an early work within the medium of Internet art that sheds light on important structural elements of the medium and suggests connections to earlier discourses addressing paradigm shifts regarding the treatment of images in the visual arts.
