The purpose of this study was to assess expectations of privacy related to cell phone use by students at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and whether there was a difference in expectations based on age and/or gender. The instrument used to measure perceptions was a self-administered survey. The survey was distributed to 500 Middle Tennessee State University students. Ten students refused participation, which left a 98% response rate. The students were from a variety of programs, including Criminal Justice. The surveys were administered by Middle Tennessee State University professors. Overall, there were few differences in the expectations of privacy by age and gender. It was concluded that more research is needed regarding this topic.
