Mergers and acquisitions are a popular strategy for growing an organization, however, there is much debate to how financially successful these acquisitions are after they're completed. In the field of Industrial Organizational Psychology, many believe that similarity of organizational design (strategy, technology and culture) between parent and target organization plays a part in the long-term financial success of these acquisitions. This research investigated how the similarities between these factors are related to financial performance in mergers and acquisitions. What this research concluded is that dissimilarity, not similarity stands out as being a statistically significant predictor in the financial performance of mergers and acquisitions.
